| Wednesday June 20th Day Eight | Morning tour of World Heritage Site Antigua. The tour focuses on the city's history, cultural trends and restoration efforts. We visit the City Hall Palace, Palace of the Captain's General, the Cathedral with its majestic ruins, Antigua's unique cultural lifestyle, Maya archeology through the spiritual stone of jade, and the best museums in town at Paseo de los Museos. | Thursday June 21st Day Nine | Visit to the highland town of Chichicastenango, the largest and most colorful market in Central America. The famous handicraft market of Chichicastenango draws not only the K'iche' Maya but vendors from all over Guatemala. Another major attractions is the colonial church of Santo Tomas next to the market. The steps originally to a temple of the pre-Hispanic Maya civilization remain venerated. Shamans (Mayan spiritual leaders) still use it for their rituals, burning incense and candles. | Friday June 22 Day 10 | Day visit to lake Atitlan. This unique lake is huddled between three volcanoes. The K'iche' Tz'utujil and Kaqchikels are the predominant Maya ethnic groups that provide an explosion of color appreciated in their textiles, crafts, artworks, and way of life.
