The Gardens Edge is seeking emergency help
Dear Friends of The Garden's Edge and Qachuu Aloom,
Days ago a savage tropical storm hit Chichicastenango and the surrounding villages of Los Encuentros. Chichicastentango is the hometown of our Guatemalan Director, Edison. He rushed home to discover utter devastation.
The photos below were taken in his community and some of the surrounding villages near Los Encuentros. They are of low quality because they were taken on his friend's cell phone.
Please take caution when viewing, some of the images are graphic and of a disturbing nature.
The communities of these poor villages desperately need our help.
Normally, The Garden's Edge does not solicit donations for emergency aid relief, but because this is happening in Edson's village, and he is part of our Guatemala family, I have offered to try and help. All donations made to our dear Edson's village will be used to buy some emergency food supplies, a few cook stoves, and to transport them to Chichi.
To stay true to our Garden's Edge mission, we will buy food from Rabinal producers to keep the money circulating locally in Guatemala.
You can think of your donation as having a 2 fold effect. One it will help local farmers, and two we will help the families and children of Chichi who have lost everything they have.
Edson tells us there are thousands of people sleeping in the town churches and schools, entire villages have been lost in landslides. Edson is from Chichi, so we will have local people on the ground helping us to guarantee your contributions gets to those who need it most.
I know that each one of you holds Guatemala dear to your hearts.
Please send your contribution today to help our friends in need.
Your donation is tax-deductible and can be sent to:

With much love and in solidarity with all the people of Guatemala,
Sarah Montgomery and Edson Xiloj
